Scale & Clean
Scale & Clean
A scale and clean is the cleaning of the teeth carried out by your dentist. The procedure involves cleaning around the gum line of your teeth to remove any plaque and tartar. Once the full clean is complete, your dentist will provide you with tips and instructions to improve your overall oral hygiene.
Why should I get a scale and clean?
Brushing and flossing alone don’t always remove all the plaque from your teeth. This will eventually go hard and can only be removed by a dentist or a hygienist, so it is important to get a scale and clean done at least once a year. Having a large build-up of plaque and tartar can lead to dental problems down the road such as tooth decay and gum disease, as well as bad breath.
Along with the traditional method of cleaning, we also offer a newer, modern way of cleaning teeth with a top of the range “Airflow” machine that uses a mix of warmer water and a fine powder to clean the teeth. This machine is great for people with sensitive teeth. No other clinic in town offers this method of cleaning teeth.
What does the procedure involve?
During the scaling portion of the procedure, the dentist will use a small instrument called a scaler to scrape away the plaque and tartar from the surface of your teeth. The dentist will also remove any plaque deposits stuck on or in between the teeth. After removing and flushing out all the debris, the dentist will polish your teeth to kill any lingering bacteria and make your teeth feel and look extra clean.
After the scale and clean you may opt for a fluoride treatment, which involves the dentist applying a cool fluoride-infused foam on the surface of your teeth to protect them against acid and bacteria.
